Common Problems
NAT problem/Yellow Smilies/Low DHT/DDB usercount on the bottom?
- You'll need to add an exception for javaw.exe (the main Azureus process) to your Software firewall (see http://firewalling.com/routers.htm)
- And it is necessary to forward Azureus' TCP and UDP listening port (see Tools -> Options -> Connection) from your router to your PC, there are 2 ways to do that:
- When your Router supports UPnP you may want to enable it in the router configuration and in Azureus > Tools > Options > Plugins > UPnP
- If UPnP isn't supported or doesn't work correctly you have to do manual Port forwarding - read about your NAT problem.
- It is possible that Azureus can't bind the listening port, this is the case if a non-superuser tries to bind to a port below 1024 or it is bound to an incorrect IP address (the input field under Tools > Options > Connection > Bind to local address should be empty)
Tracker Status returns an error
Depending on the message, there can have several reasons:
| Error Message | Reason | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| "Error: Connection Refused: connect" | the tracker is down | wait until it comes back up or look for another source |
| "Invalid passkey" | you have a torrent from a private tracker that requires registration | |
| "No buffer space available (maximum connections reached?)" | the connection limit of your OS is reached | if you have Win9x please read Registry patch to increase max connections for Windows 95 and 98. if it is another OS lower the connection limit of Azureus under Tools -> Options -> Transfer |
Download doesn't finish
When your download is stuck at 99% or a very high percentage please continue with the Torrents stop at 99 percent article. Otherwise open the torrent's details by double-clicking on it in the "My Torrents" window and check the availability value (shown right of the pieces bar) and then switch to the "Peers" tab and look at the completion of the other peers. If they're all stuck at a similar percentage it's likely that the torrent is dead and you have to look for another source. Usually the seed-count will be 0 in that case.
Low download speed
Throughput speeds can vary greatly from one torrent to another. Some factors are within your control, some are not - make sure you get good torrents. If you're reading this and you use dial-up, forget it. For everyone else, follow the 80% upload speed cap rule to help you optimise download speed. Running more torrents than your upload speed can handle will thin it out and actually decrease download speed. The swarm size (seeds:peers) is a factor too.
Todo and not todo
Don't stop torrents right after they finished downloading
Always keep your torrents active until the share ratio reaches 100% or more. You can easily automate this setting your Ignore Rules right.
